To the end that they, desiring food, might for the ugly sight of the beasts sent among them lothe even that, which they must needs desire; but these, suffering penury for a short space, might be made partakers of a strange taste.

To the end that [4] thine enemies, desiring food, Might for the hideousness of the creatures sent among them [5] Loathe even the necessary appetite;But these, thy people, [6] having for a short space sufferred want, Might even partake of food of [7] rare taste.

De tal modo que aqueles, mau grado sua fome, diante do aspecto hediondo de animais enviados contra eles, experimentaram a náusea; estes, após uma curta privação, receberam um alimento maravilhoso.[*]

Assim, enquanto aqueles, famintos, perdiam o apetite natural pelo desgosto do que lhes fora enviado, estes, depois de passar um pouco de necessidade, entre si repartiam um alimento extraordinário.

Porém os egípcios, embora estivessem com fome, perderam o apetite porque os animais que enviaste contra eles eram repugantes [40] . Mas o teu povo, depois de passar um pouco de fome, pôde alimentar-se de comida da melhor qualidade.
