And employing his labours lewdly, he maketh a vain god of the same clay, even he which a little before was made of earth himself, and within a little while after returneth to the same, out when his life which was lent him shall be demanded.

And also, labouring to an evil end, he mouldeth a vain god out of the same clay, He who, having but a little before been made of earth, After a short space [17] goeth his way to the earth out of which he was taken, When he is [18] required to render back the [19] soul [20] which was lent him.

Do mesmo barro, forma também, como obreiro perverso, uma vã divindade, ele que, ainda há pouco, nasceu da terra, e em breve voltará a ela, de onde foi tirado, quando lhe serão pedidas as contas de sua vida.

E depois - esforço mal empregado! - da mesma argila modela uma divindade vazia, ele que pouco antes nascera da terra e que em breve voltará à terra donde foi tirado, quando se lhe pedirá conta da vida que lhe foi emprestada.

And (then) he that was made of earth a little before, maketh a god of the same clay with vain travail; and the potter, asked to yield the debt of the soul which he had, leadeth himself after a little time (back) to the earth, from whence he was taken. [And with vain travail (a) god he maketh (out) of the same clay, he that a little before of earth was made; and after a little he leadeth himself (from) whence he is taken, again asked (for) the debt of the soul that he had.]

And he that was made of earth a little before, maketh a god of the same clay with vain travail; and the potter, asked to yield the debt of the soul which he had, leadeth himself after a little time to the earth , from whence he was taken.

Ele gasta a sua força fazendo do mesmo barro um deus inútil, ele que pouco antes foi feito do pó da terra e pouco depois terá de voltar à terra da qual foi tirado, quando tiver de entregar a Deus a alma que lhe foi emprestada.
