But by such works hast thou taught thy people that the just man should be merciful, and hast made thy children to be of a good hope that thou givest repentance for sins.

[33] But thou didst teach thy people by such works as these,How that the righteous must be a lover of men; And thou didst make thy sons to be of good hope, Because thou givest repentance when men have sinned.

Agindo desta maneira, mostrastes a vosso povo que o justo deve ser cheio de bondade, e inspirastes a vossos filhos a boa esperança de que, após o pecado, lhes dareis tempo para a penitência;

Assim procedendo, ensinaste a teu povo que o justo deve ser amigo dos homens,[b] e a teus filhos deste a esperança de que, após o pecado, dás a conversão.

Forsooth thou hast taught thy people by such works, that it behooveth a judge to be just, and benign, either merciful; and thou madest thy sons (to be) of good hope, for thou deemest, and givest place to (or for) penance in sins. Assim tens ensinado ao teu povo que quem é justo deve também ser bondoso. Tu tens dado uma firme esperança aos teus filhos, pois dás-lhes a oportunidade de se arrependerem dos seus pecados.
