But she said, Hold thy peace, and deceive me not; my son is dead. And she went out every day into the way which they went, and did eat no meat on the daytime, and ceased not whole nights to bewail her son Tobias, until the fourteen days of the wedding were expired, which Raguel had sworn that he should spend there. Then Tobias said to Raguel, Let me go, for my father and my mother look no more to see me.

And she said unto him, Hold thy peace, deceive me not; my child hath perished. And she went out every day into the way by which they went, and did eat no bread in the daytime, and ceased not whole nights to bewail her son Tobias, until [5] the fourteen days of the wedding feast were expired, which Raguel had sworn that he should spend there. But Tobias said unto Raguel, Send me away, for my father and my mother look no more to see me.

Mas ela continuava inconsolável: todos os dias ela saía para fora, olhava para todos os lados, e corria por todos os caminhos, por onde poderia voltar o filho, a fim de vê-lo ao longe, se fosse possível.

Ela replicou-lhe: "Deixa-me, não tentes me enganar; meu filho morreu." E todos os dias ia observar a estrada por onde seu filho havia partido. Não acreditava em mais ninguém. E quando o sol se punha, entrava em casa e gemia e chorava a noite inteira, sem poder dormir. Quando se completaram os catorze dias de bodas, que Ragüel havia prometido celebrar em honra de sua filha, Tobias veio dizer-lhe: "Deixa-me partir; estou certo de que meu pai e minha mãe estão pensando que não me tornarão a ver. Portanto, te peço, meu pai, deixa-me regressar para junto de meu pai. Já te contei em que situação o deixei."

But his mother might not be comforted in any manner, but each day she went out, and looked about after (or for) him, and compassed all the ways, by which the hope of his again-coming (or his coming again) seemed to her, to see him coming (from) afar, if it might be done. [She forsooth no wise might take comfort, but each day starting out, beheld about, and went about all the ways, by which seemed hope of (him) turning again, that afar she might see him coming, if it might be so.]
