But they that had the charge of that wicked feast, for the old acquaintance they had with the man, taking him aside, besought him to bring flesh of his own provision, such as was lawful for him to use, and make as if he did eat of the flesh taken from the sacrifice commanded by the king;

But they that had the charge of that forbidden [37] sacrificial feast took the man aside, for the acquaintance which of old times they had with him, and privately besought him to bring flesh of his own providing, such as was befitting for him to use, and to make as if he did eat of the flesh from the sacrifice, as had been commanded by the king;

Ora, os encarregados desse ímpio banquete ritual, já desde muito tempo possuíam relações de amizade com Eleazar. Tomaram-no à parte e rogaram-lhe que fizesse trazer as carnes permitidas, que ele mesmo tivesse preparado, para comê-las como se fossem carnes do sacrifício, conforme ordenara o rei.

Os que presidiam àquele ímpio banquete sacrificai, pelo conhecimento que desde longo tempo tinham desse homem, tomando-o à parte, tentavam persuadi-lo a mandar vir carnes das quais lhe era lícito servir-se e que por ele mesmo tivessem sido preparadas. Apenas simulasse comer das carnes prescritas pelo rei, isto é, as provenientes do sacrifício.

Soothly these that stood nigh, were moved (al)together by wicked mercy, for eld [or old] friendship of the man, and they took him privily [or taking him privily], and prayed that fleshes should be brought, which it was leaveful (or lawful) to him for to eat, (so) that he were feigned to have eaten, as the king commanded, of the flesh of sacrifice;

Ora, os homens encarregados deste banquete ritual, proibido pela lei, em virtude de há muito conhecerem este homem, tomaram-no à parte e insistiram com ele para que levasse consigo carne de que lhe fosse lícito servir-se, preparada por ele mesmo, e fingisse estar a comer das carnes do sacrifício prescritas pelo rei,
