And the royal privileges granted of special favour to the Jews by the means of John the father of Eupolemus, who went ambassador to Rome for amity and aid, he took away; and putting down the governments which were according to the law, he brought up new customs against the law:

And setting aside the royal ordinances of special favour to the Jews, granted by the means of John the father of [20] Eupolemus, who went on the ambassage to the Romans for friendship and alliance, and seeking to overthrow the lawful modes of life, he brought in new customs forbidden by the law:

Apesar dos privilégios obtidos do poder real por João, o pai de Eupolemo, que foi enviado aos romanos para concluir um pacto de aliança e de amizade, ele introduziu ímpios costumes, desdenhando as leis nacionais.[*]

Suprimiu os privilégios reais benignamente concedidos aos judeus por intermédio de João, pai de Eupólemo, o mesmo que depois chefiou a embaixada com o objetivo de estabelecer amizade e aliança com os romanos. E, abolindo as instituições legítimas, introduziu costumes contrários à Lei.

And when these things were done away, which by cause (or because) of humanity, either courtesy, were ordained of (or by) kings to (the) Jews by John, the father of Eupolemus, which was ordained in lawful message of friendship and fellowship with (the) Romans, he destroyed (the) rights, or (the) laws, of (the) citizens, and made shrewd (or depraved) ordinances;
