21 Maccabeus seeing the coming of the multitude, and the divers preparations of armour, and the fierceness of the beasts, stretched out his hands toward heaven, and called upon the Lord that worketh wonders, knowing that victory cometh not by arms, but even as it seemeth good to him, he giveth it to such as are worthy:
21 Maccabæus, perceiving the presence of the [28]troops, and the various arms with which they were equipped, and the savageness of the [29]elephants, holding up his hands unto heaven called upon the Lord [30]that worketh wonders, [31]recognising that success cometh not by arms, but that, according as the Lord shall judge, he gaineth the victory for them that are worthy.
21 Macabeu, à vista dessa multidão imensa, do aparato de armas tão diversas e do aspecto temível dos elefantes, estendeu as mãos para o céu e invocou o Senhor que opera prodígios. Sabia muito bem que não é o poderio das armas que obtém a vitória, senão que Deus a decide, outorgando-a aos que ele julga dignos dela.
21 Ao considerar a presença de tais multidões, o equipamento variegado de suas armas e o aspecto selvagem dos elefantes, o Macabeu estendeu as mãos ao céu invocando o Senhor que faz prodígios. Pois bem sabia que não é pela força das armas que ele concede a vitória, mas sim aos que dela são dignos, segundo o seu próprio critério.
21 Maccabeus beheld the coming of (the) multitude [or Maccabeus beholding the coming of multitude], and diverse apparel of armours, and (the) fierceness of (the) beasts, and he stretched out the hands to heaven, and called to help the Lord doing great wonders, which not by [or after] (the) power of armours, (or of arms, or weapons), but as it pleaseth to him, giveth victory to worthy men.
