Itai, contudo, declarou ao rei: “Juro por Yahweh, o Nome do SENHOR, e por tua vida que onde quer que o rei, meu senhor, esteja, ali estará também o teu servo, para viver ou para morrer!”

E Itai respondeu ao rei, e disse: Como o Senhor vive, e como o meu senhor, o rei, vive, certamente no lugar em que o senhor, o rei, estiver, seja na morte ou vida, ali também estará o teu servo.

Itai retorquiu: “Tão certo como vive o SENHOR e pela tua própria vida, que irei para onde quer que vás, aconteça o que acontecer, quer isso represente a vida ou a morte.”
