1 For the ungodly said, reasoning with themselves, but not aright, Our life is short and tedious, and in the death of a man there is no remedy: neither was there any man known to have returned from the grave.
1 For they said [1]within themselves, reasoning not aright, [2]Short and sorrowful is our life; [3]And there is no healing when a man cometh to his end, And [4]none was ever known that [5]gave release from Hades.
1 Dizem, com efeito, nos seus falsos raciocínios: Curta é a nossa vida, e cheia de tristezas; para a morte não há remédio algum; não há notícia de ninguém que tenha voltado da região dos mortos.[*]
1 Dizem entre si, em seus falsos raciocínios: "Breve e triste é nossa vida,[u] o remédio não está no fim do homem, não se conhece quem tenha voltado[v] do Hades.
1 Forsooth wicked men said, thinking with themselves not rightfully, The time of our life is little, and with annoyance (or harm); no refreshing is in the end of a man, and none there is, that is known, that (re)turned again from hells (or from the grave). [Forsooth unpious men said, thinking with themselves not right, Little and with annoyance is the time of our life; there is not refreshing in the end of a man, and there is not, (any) that be known, turned again from hell.]
