For when unrighteous men thought to oppress the holy nation; they being shut up in their houses, the prisoners of darkness, and fettered with the bonds of a long night, lay there exiled from the eternal providence.

For when lawless men had supposed that they held a holy nation in their power, [5] They themselves, prisoners of darkness, and bound in the fetters of a long night, Close kept beneath their roofs, Lay exiled from the eternal providence.

Por terem acreditado que podiam oprimir a santa nação, os ímpios, prisioneiros das trevas e encarcerados por uma longa noite, jaziam encerrados nas suas casas, tentando escapar à vossa incessante vigilância.[*]

Os ímpios, persuadidos de poderem oprimir uma nação santa, jaziam cativos das trevas, nos entraves de uma longa noite, reclusos sob seus tetos, banidos da eterna providência.

For the while wicked men hold for steadfast, (so) that they may be lords of (the) holy nation, they were fettered with bonds of darknesses, and of long night, and were closed under roofs; and they fugitives were subject to everlasting purveyance. [While forsooth wicked men have full proved, to be able to lordship to the holy nation, in bonds of darknesses, and of long night gyved, enclosed under roofs, fugitive to perpetual providence, pleased.]

Quando os pagãos [45] pensavam que tinham escravizado o teu santo povo, uma noite sem fim prendeu-os, e ficaram prisioneiros da escuridão [46] . Trancados dentro das suas casas, estavam longe da tua providência eterna.
