But my neighbours mocked me, and said, This man is not yet afraid to be put to death for this matter: who fled away; and yet, lo, he burieth the dead again.

Seus vizinhos criticavam-no unanimemente. Já uma vez ordenaram que te matassem, precisamente por isso, e mal escapaste dessa sentença de morte, recomeças a enterrar os cadáveres!

Os meus vizinhos diziam, rindo de mim: "Ele já não tem mais medo." (É preciso lembrar que minha cabeça já fora posta a prêmio por tal motivo). "Na primeira vez ele fugiu; e no entanto, ei-lo de novo a sepultar os mortos!"

Forsooth all his neighbours blamed him, and said, Now for the cause of this thing thou were commanded to be slain, and scarcely thou hast escaped the behest of death, and again thou buriest dead men? [Forsooth all his neighbours reproved him, saying, Now because of this thing thou art commanded to be slain, and scarcely thou hast escaped the commandment of death, and again thou buriest the dead?]
