[14] And they went down into Egypt, [15] for a famine covered all the land of Canaan; and there they sojourned, until they were grown up; [16] and they became there a great multitude, so that one could not number their nation.

Oprimidos pelo rei do Egito, e obrigados a trabalhar na fabricação de tijolos e de argamassa para a construção de suas cidades, clamaram ao seu Senhor, e este feriu toda a terra do Egito com vários flagelos.
