And he brought him word how that [11] the treasury in Jerusalem was full of untold sums of money, so that the multitude of the funds was innumerable, and that they did not pertain to the account of the sacrifices, but that it was possible that these should fall under the king's power.

Declarou-lhe que o tesouro do templo transbordava de indizíveis riquezas, a não poder enumerá-las; que nada tinham a ver com os sacrifícios, e que ele daria um jeito de fazê-las passar ao erário real.

E referiu-lhe que a câmara do tesouro em Jerusalém estava repleta de riquezas indizíveis, a ponto de ser incalculável a quantidade de dinheiro. E que esse dinheiro não tinha proporção alguma com as despesas dos sacrifícios, sendo portanto possível fazer tudo isso cair sob o domínio do rei.
