Heard that Philip, who was left over the affairs in Antioch, was desperately bent, confounded, intreated the Jews, submitted himself, and sware to all equal conditions, agreed with them, and offered sacrifice, honoured the temple, and dealt kindly with the place,

Soube então que Filipe, a quem tinha deixado em Antioquia para a direção dos negócios, se revoltara, e ficou muito consternado. Fez propostas aos judeus, aceitou as condições deles e jurou tudo o que lhe pareceu justo. Reconciliados, ofereceu um sacrifício, presenteou o templo e mostrou-se benévolo para com a cidade.

Soube então que Filipe, deixado à frente dos negócios do reino, havia perdido a razão em Antioquia. Consternado, entrou em negociações com os judeus, condescendeu com eles e prestou juramento sobre todas as condições que fossem justas. Reconciliado, chegou a oferecer um sacrifício e deu mostras de respeito para com o Santuário e de benevolência para com o Lugar.[h]

Forsooth as he knew that Philip had rebelled at Antioch, which was left on needs, he was astonied (or astonished) in mind, either understanding, and besought (the) Jews, and was subject to them, and swore of (or to) all things, of which it was seen just; and he was reconciled, and offered sacrifice, and worshipped (or honoured) the temple, and putted gifts (forth).

Convocou os judeus, sujeitou-os a um acordo com eles, que jurou cumprir segundo todas as condições justas, reconciliou-se com eles, ofereceu um sacrifício, honrou o templo e mostrou grande generosidade para com aquele lugar.
