And the merchants of the country, hearing the fame of them, took silver and gold very much, with servants, and came into the camp to buy the children of Israel for slaves: a power also of Syria and of the land of the Philistines joined themselves unto them.

And the merchants of the country heard the fame of them, and [36] took silver and gold exceeding much, with [37] fetters, and came into the camp to take the children of Israel for servants: and there were added unto them the forces of Syria and of [38] the land of the [39] Philistines.

Quando os mercadores ouviram falar deles, tomaram muita prata e ouro e se dirigiram com peias ao campo para comprar os filhos de Israel como escravos. Exércitos da Síria, bem como do estrangeiro, vieram juntar-se a eles.[*]

Os comerciantes do país, ao tomarem conhecimento da sua vinda trazendo consigo prata e ouro em grande quantidade, além de se munirem de grilhões,[a] vieram ao acampamento para comprar os filhos de Israel como escravos. Aos sírios pintara-se ainda um contingente da Iduméia e da região dos filisteus.[b]
