But those riches perish by evil travail: and he begetteth a son, and there is nothing in his hand.

Be not called [22] a whisperer; And lie not in wait with thy tongue: For upon the thief there is shame, And an evil condemnation upon him [23] that hath a double tongue.

Se tiveres inteligência, responde a outrem, senão, põe a mão sobre a tua boca, para que não sejas surpreendido a dizer uma palavra indiscreta, e venhas a te envergonhar dela.[*]

Não te faças chamar de caluniador, não armes uma emboscada com tua língua; porque se para o ladrão existe a vergonha, para o fingido existe uma sentença pior.

For they perish in the worst torment; (and) he begat a son, that shall be in sovereign neediness. (And then those riches be lost in a terrible calamity; and so he hath begotten a son, who shall be left in great neediness.)

Be thou not called a privy evil speaker, [or a twisel tongue, or a privy backbiter], in thy life, and be thou not taken in thy tongue, and be ashamed. Shame and penance is on a thief, and worst shame [or worst reproof], either cursing, is on a man of double tongue. Forsooth hatred and enmity and despising is to a privy backbiter.
