1 So I returned, and considered all the oppressions that are done under the sun: and behold the tears of such as were oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side of their oppressors there was power; but they had no comforter.
1 My son, [1]deprive not the poor of his living, And make not the needy eyes to wait long.
1 Meu filho, não negues esmola ao pobre, nem dele desvies os olhos.
1 Filho, não recuses ao pobre o seu sustento, não desvies teus olhos do miserável.
1 I turned me to other things, and I saw false challenges, that be done under the sun (and I saw much oppression, that is done under the sun), and the tears of the guiltless, and (that) no man (was a) comforter; and that they destitute, either forsaken, of the help of all men, may not against-stand the violence of them.
1 Son, defraud thou not the alms-[deeds] of a poor man, and turn not over thine eyes from a poor man [or the poor].
1 MY son, defraud not the poor of his living, and make not the needy eyes to wait long.
