[38] For he hath not tried us in the fire, as he did them, to search out their hearts, neither hath he taken vengeance on us; [39] but the Lord doth scourge them that come near unto him, to admonish them.

Consideremos que esses tormentos são menos graves que nossos pecados, e que esses flagelos com que o Senhor nos castiga, como escravos, foram-nos mandados para a nossa emenda, e não para a nossa perdição.
