2 For he had entered the city called Persepolis, and went about to rob the temple, and to hold the city; whereupon the multitude running to defend themselves with their weapons put them to flight; and so it happened, that Antiochus being put to flight of the inhabitants returned with shame.
2 [3]For he had entered into the city called Persepolis, and he assayed to rob [4]a temple and to hold down the city. Whereupon there was an onset of the multitudes, and [5] Antiochus and his men turned to make defence with arms; and it came to pass that Antiochus was put to flight by the people of the country and broke up his camp with disgrace.
2 Pois, entrando na cidade que se chamava Persépolis, ele havia tentado saquear o templo e ocupar a cidade, mas o povo se revoltou e pegou em armas, para defender-se; com isso, Antíoco viu-se forçado pelos habitantes dessa região a começar uma retirada humilhante.
2 De fato, havendo entrado na cidade chamada Persépolis, tentou despojar-lhe o templo[f] e dominar a própria cidade. A multidão, por isso, irrompendo, recorreu às armas, e o resultado foi que Antíoco, acossado pelos habitantes do país, teve de empreender uma retirada vergonhosa.
2 For he had entered into that city, that is said Persepolis, that is, the chief city of Persia, and he attempted for to rob the temple, and oppress the city; but for (or because) the multitude ran together [or but the multitude running together] to (their) armours, (or with their arms, or their weapons), they were turned into flight; and so it befell, that Antiochus after flight vile-like (or vilely), [or lowly, (or basely)], (re)turned again.
