15 But when the Jews heard of Nicanor's inroad and the assault of the heathen, [22]they sprinkled earth upon their heads and made solemn supplication to him [23]who had established his own people for evermore, and who alway, making manifest his presence, upholdeth them that are [24]his own portion.
15 Os judeus, ao ouvirem falar da expedição de Nicanor e do ataque dos gentios, cobriram a cabeça com pó e imploraram àquele que estabelecera seu povo para sempre e que continuamente, de modo visível, defendia sua parte escolhida.
15 Tendo ouvido a notícia da expedição de Nicanor e da agressão dos gentios, os judeus cobriram de terra as cabeças e puseram-se a suplicar Àquele que constituíra o seu povo para a eternidade e que sempre, com a manifestação da sua presença, vem em socorro da sua própria herança.
