Now Jerusalem lay void as a wilderness, there was none of her children that went in or out: the sanctuary also was trodden down, and aliens kept the strong hold; the heathen had their habitation in that place; and joy was taken from Jacob, and the pipe with the harp ceased.

[40] And Jerusalem was without inhabitant as a wilderness, there was none of her offspring that went in or went out; and the sanctuary was trodden down, and [41] the sons of strangers were in the citadel, the Gentiles lodged therein; and joy was taken away from Jacob, and the pipe and the harp ceased.

Porquanto Jerusalém estava desabitada e deserta: não havia um só de seus filhos que nela entrasse ou dela saísse. Seu santuário estava profanado, soldados estrangeiros ocupavam a cidadela, gentios faziam ali sua habitação. Toda a alegria havia desaparecido de Jacó; a flauta e a harpa estavam caladas.

Ora, Jerusalém estava despovoada como um deserto, nela não entrando e dela não saindo nenhum de seus filhos. Conculcado estava o Santuário, e os filhos dos estrangeiros ocupavam a Cidadela, transformada em hospedaria para os gentios. Arrancada fora a alegria de Jacó e não se ouviam mais a flauta e a cítara.

And Jerusalem was not inhabited, but was as (a) desert; there was not that entered and went out, of (its) children thereof; and the holy thing was defouled (or and the Temple was defiled), and (the) sons of aliens were in the high tower, (yea), there was the dwelling of (the) heathen men; and the liking (or joy) was done away from Jacob, and pipe and harp failed there.
