Forasmuch as oftentimes there have been wars in the country, wherein for the maintenance of their sanctuary, and the law, Simon the son of Mattathias, of the posterity of Jarib, together with his brethren, put themselves in jeopardy, and resisting the enemies of their nation did their nation great honour:

Forasmuch as oftentimes there have been wars in the country, but Simon the son of Mattathias, the son of [40] the sons of Joarib, and his brethren, put themselves in jeopardy, and withstood the enemies of their nation, that their sanctuary and the law might be established, and glorified their nation with great glory:

Simão filho de Matatias, descendente de Jarib, e seus irmãos, expuseram-se ao perigo e resistiram aos inimigos de sua raça, para salvar o templo e a lei, levando seu povo a uma grande glória.

Tendo-se muitas vezes deflagrado guerras no país, Simão, filho de Matatias e sacerdote da estirpe de Joarib, ele e seus irmãos, expuseram-se ao perigo e fizeram frente aos adversários de sua nação, a fim de que seu lugar santo e a Lei permanecessem firmes. Assim enalteceram a sua nação com uma glória imensa.

for many times battles were done [or be made] in your country. Forsooth Simon, the son of Mattathias, of the sons of Jarib, and his brethren, gave themselves to peril, and against-stood (the) adversaries of their folk, (so) that their holy things (or their Temple) and (the) law should stand; and by great glory they glorified their folk (or and they brought great glory to their people).
