And when he came near to Azotus, they shewed him the temple of Dagon that was burnt, and Azotus and the suburbs thereof that were destroyed, and the bodies that were cast abroad and them that he had burnt in the battle; for they had made heaps of them by the way where he should pass.

Quando se aproximou de Azot, mostraram-lhe o templo de Dagon destruído pelo fogo, Azot e os arrabaldes da cidade em ruínas, os cadáveres jacentes por terra, e os restos calcinados daqueles que haviam sido queimados na guerra, postos em montes sobre seu caminho.

Quando chegou a Asdod, mostraram-lhe as ruínas do templo de Dagon, que tinha sido destruído pelo fogo. Ele viu também a cidade de Asdod e os seus arredores arrasados. Havia corpos espalhados por toda parte e também restos carbonizados que haviam sido queimados na batalha, e que foram amontoados à beira da estrada por onde ele iria passar.
